Matt Gomes

I have been working as a Physio around Perth for around 20 years now in a few different settings, doing a couple of different roles, but have been happily here at Beechboro Physiotherapy since 2015.

After graduating from Curtin University School of Physiotherapy in 2005, I spent the following 10 years working as a Physiotherapist in an Industrial Health and Workplace Medical company out of a few clinic locations around Perth. My time there was spent treating workplace injuries, educating on manual handling and safe work practices, performing ergonomic assessments and pre-employment physical examinations.  I was also able to experience a period working as the physiotherapist at the medical centre of one of the major gas plant operations up in the WA north west.

During my time in that first role I learnt much about biomechanics and the rehabilitation of a wide range of issues, returning to a broad scope of occupations.  I was especially interested in conditioning people to return to the full physical demands they encounter in life with confidence they are safe and as capable as can be.  I continued my training in Clinical Pilates during this period and spent a good portion of my day exercising with patients in the gym, along with performing manual therapy.  I also further trained in the use of dry needling at that time and have since continued to use these techniques as a valuable tool for when the situations require.

After 10 years in that role, learning what it was to be a physiotherapist it was time for a change.  I then went on and worked in a few other private practice physiotherapy clinics and gyms around Perth but was fortunate to eventually come to work here at Beechboro Physiotherapy, and have remained here for close to 10 years now.  Here at Beechboro Physiotherapy I have enjoyed working with the people in the local areas and gotten to know about the local sporting teams and organisations that the people are a part of.  When I'm not working I will be spending time with my family, doing some exercise in the gym myself and occasionally I'll get out and play a round of golf.
