Women’s Pelvic Health
Pelvic health physiotherapy assessment and management for women through all life stages including bladder and bowel dysfunction, prolapse, pelvic pain and sexual pain.
The pelvis contains the bladder, bowel and uterus; and fulfils many important functions such as defecation, bladder storage and emptying, childbirth and sexual intercourse. When these functions are disrupted, it has a significant impact on our daily lives.
The Pelvic Health Physio’s at Beechboro Physio are experienced in dealing with these conditions. Their assessment and management of bladder and bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic pain can help you get back in control of your body.
Pregnancy and Postnatal Care
Pregnancy can be an exciting (and challenging) time in your life! As your body undergoes hormonal and postural changes, our postgraduate trained physiotherapists at Beechboro Physio can help you stay fit and healthy throughout your pregnancy.
Following the birth of your baby, whether that is by vaginal birth or caesarean section, Pelvic Health physiotherapists can assist you in your recovery.
We help you with a complete recovery of your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles and any issues resulting from the delivery.
Many women like to return to exercise and sport after having a baby. Our Pelvic Health Physiotherapists will design a safe graduated exercise program, including pelvic floor and abdominal muscle exercises, that are suitable for you and work with you to help you meet your goals.
Men’s Pelvic Health
Our Physiotherapists have extensive experience and expertise in the area of male pelvic health and are dedicated to providing holistic, personalised care. We accept referrals from your urologist, GP and also self-referrals.
Common issues we can help with include:
Incontinence; loss of bladder control
Increased frequency of bladder emptying
Urgency to rush to the toilet
Voiding difficulty; incomplete emptying, straining or post-micturition dribble
Constipation
Haemorrhoids and anal fissures
Pre/post prostate surgery or urological procedure care
What You Can Expect
You will be seen by a specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist in a private room. The initial appointment involves a detailed assessment to understand your problems and identify your goals. We understand this can be a tricky topic to discuss and appreciate the personal and sensitive aspect of these conversations. This appointment can take up to an hour and follow up appointments last up to 30 minutes.
Following your initial assessment, an internal vaginal or rectal examination may be suggested to gain more information to direct your treatment. The internal examination of your pelvic floor will only be done with your consent. This does not have to take place on your first appointment and may not be suggested at all if the therapist does not feel it would be beneficial.
